Accommodation
The Protea Hotel Sea Point offers 123 sumptuous rooms. Stylish and spacious, all rooms offer breathtaking views of either the ocean or mountains, with en-suite bathroom, air-conditioning and satellite TV. Of course, the most talked about feature of the Hotel is the Art Luxury Suites. Lets go into them in a bit more detail … Abraham le Roux has worked his magic on one of the luxury suites, bringing his magical take on township life into the room with his special sculptures that have taken on the structure of the suite. His art has been further enhanced through the use of earthy colours with rich leather work and dark wood. The Paul du Toit room is created in the very defined style of this renowned Cape Town artist. Using bold colours and lines, he has kept within the style that he is legendary for, creating works on the walls, above the bed, in the lounge and even using light-switches for inspiration. Sophie Peters, from Khayelitsha, specializes in typical scenes and Township art and has created a collection of themes displayed in murals on the walls. Her artwork is vibrantly colourful – portraying the rainbow nation of South Africa. In addition to this is the Selwyn Pekeur suite, whose works include colourful framed artwork with a variety of scenes ranging from dancing couples to a saxophone player. The last two rooms that are under construction are the incredible Nomphopi Suite that will include a collection of Ndebele dolls. These beautiful handmade dolls are adorned in traditional Ndebele ladieswear, beautiful bright colours in beaded work, blankets and finished off with the traditional bangle around the neck and leg. The dolls will range from miniature in size to 1.2 metres tall. The other luxury suite is The Ndebele Suite which will incorporate seven artists, who have created twenty two Ndebele art panels. This unique African art originates in the Limpopo province and is the mastery of Ndebele ladies namely, Diahbill, Nomsa, Duduzile, Embrocia, Nadiandili, Thoko and Mahlangu.
